HMAS Waterhen was commissioned in December 1962. It is located in Waverton on Sydney's lower north shore, within Sydney Harbour.
Waterhen is Navy's lead establishment for mine warfare. The base is occupied by many professional sailors and home to some of the most advanced mine countermeasure equipment and technology.
The Sydney Harbour region is home to hundreds of parks and reserves, including Sydney Harbour National Park and the Lane Cove National Park. Attractions such as the many beaches of the harbour, a wide variety of cafes, restaurants and shops, Taronga Zoo and Luna Park are all easily accessible.
