Veteran support

While veterans may no longer serve in the Royal Australian Navy, there are a number of organisations that provide services and support to them and their families. The Department of Veteran's Affairs (DVA) is a department of the Australian Government providing support, services and information for veterans and their dependants, serving and former serving ADF members and war widow/ers. Their services include:

  • financial support
  • health care
  • rehabilitation
  • mental health care
  • help returning to civilian life
  • commemoration and recognition
  • home care assistance
  • help with housing
  • historical information.

Open Arms

Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling is Australia’s leading provider of high quality mental health assessment and clinical counselling services for Australian veterans and their families.

Returned and Services League Australia

The Returned and Services League Australia advocates for the best possible conditions for serving men and women and for those who have served the nation.

Soldier On

Soldier On is an independent, not-for-profit organisation. They deliver holistic support services that enable current and former Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel and their families to lead meaningful civilian lives.

Support services include:

  • employment
  • learning and education
  • events and networking opportunities.

Veterans’ Entry Program

The Australian Catholic University (ACU) Veterans’ Entry Program assists veterans to transition from military to civilian life, broaden personal networks, and create a pathway to gainful employment with higher education. Completion of two years’ ADF experience gives you a rank of 82, which will grant entry into most Australian Catholic University Bachelor degrees.

Frontline Yoga

Frontline Yoga offers free yoga classes for current and ex-serving members to assist with maintaining resilience, strength and connection. Suitable for beginners, particularly suitable for people who may be experiencing chronic stress, depression, anxiety or post-traumatic stress.
