HMAS Watson was commissioned in March 1945 and became a purely Naval establishment with the departure of the Army in 1981. Located at Sydney's South Head, it is the Navy’s premier maritime warfare training establishment.
The role of Watson is to prepare Navy officers and sailors to go to sea and to be a part of the team that contributes to fleet commitments and outcomes. Watson is the home of the Training Authority Maritime Warfare which is responsible for directing the development, implementation and evaluation of all maritime warfare training.
HMAS Watson is surrounded by a national park which is home to much native Australian flora and fauna. Attractions such as the many beaches of Watson's Bay, coastal walks, and a wide variety of cafes and restaurants are all easily accessible.
