HMAS Sydney II Commission of Inquiry

On 28 March 2008, Air Chief Marshal A.G. Houston, AC, AFC, Chief of the Defence Force, appointed a Commission of Inquiry constituted by the Honourable T.R.H. Cole, AO, RFD, QC as President, to inquire into and report upon circumstances associated with the loss of HMAS SYDNEY (II) in November, 1941 and consequent loss of life and related events subsequent thereto.

Members of the public, individuals and organisations who have any information and material relevant to the Inquiry or who may wish to make submissions are requested to provide it directly to the Secretary of the HMAS Sydney II Commission of Inquiry at the address specified below.

A request for authorisation to appear before the Commission of Inquiry is to be forwarded in writing to the Secretary and is to be supported by a submission in writing identifying the basis, nature and extent of the potential interest sought to be represented.

The President will convene a public sitting of the Commission of Inquiry as follows;
