The CWSC was started in October 1995 and membership during the ensuing years would have exceeded the expectations of its initial founders. The current boat and facilities are utilised by both personnel from within HMAS Ceberus and a broad cross section of Navy and other Defence members passing through on posting or training. During the warmer months between 280-300 initial category trainees alone utilise the CWSC facilities each year.

The Club primarily operates at the National Water Sports Centre (NWSC) in Carrum, Victoria. This Commonwealth Games facility is strictly controlled and monitored by Parks Victoria. There is no public access to the water and Navy is privileged to be one of only two water ski clubs granted access. Other users of this facility include high school, college and university rowing clubs affording an ideal opportunity for the young people (potential recruits) to see Navy in a new and positive light. Cooperation between the Carrum Water Ski Club and Navy Water Ski Club users groups is outstanding, and as members of the user group committee we are held in high regard by this organisation, mainly due to our professionalism, commitment to safe practices and co-operation.

We regularly conduct Adventurous Training Activities over weekends that assist in the development of teamwork, cooperation, leadership and motivation. These weekends are conducted at echuca during the summer months which is situated on the Murray River. During the winter months AT is conduct at Hazelwood which is located only two hours from HMAS Cerberus and is a man made warm water dam. Recently we have become involved with the starlight foundation working in conjunction with the Carrum water ski club creating a fun day for terminally ill children. The interaction that occurred between staff, trainees and children was priceless.

The CERBERUS Water Ski Club (CWSC) is a superb 'secondary' Navy environment, which has much to offer trainees and service personnel alike. Participation in skiing constantly challenges members to aim higher, achieve new goals, interact with their peers and senior staff, take on leadership and training roles and work as part of a team. It offers an opportunity for trainees to increase their fitness and agility, test their courage and perseverance while giving them an outlet for stress release in a supervised and safe environment.
